Aws Networking Interview Questions

During an AWS networking interview, you can expect questions related to Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) setup and configuration, routing, network security, and network monitoring using services such as Amazon VPC, Amazon Route 53, AWS Direct Connect, and AWS CloudWatch. Employers may also ask about best practices for designing resilient and scalable network architectures, troubleshooting network connectivity issues, and optimizing network performance within an AWS environment. It is important to showcase your knowledge of AWS networking services and your ability to design, implement, and manage secure and efficient network infrastructures within the AWS cloud.

1 - How does Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) work in AWS?

VPC allows you to create virtual networks on the cloud where you can launch your resources like EC2 instances. It provides control over the networking environment, such as selecting IP address ranges, subnets, routing tables, and network gateways. You can also configure security settings using security groups and network access control lists to protect your resources within the VPC.

2) What is the difference between a public subnet and a private subnet in AWS?

A public subnet has its route table that directs internet bound traffic through an Internet Gateway, allowing resources within the subnet to communicate directly with the internet. In contrast, a private subnet does not have a route to the Internet Gateway and relies on a Network Address Translation (NAT) Gateway or NAT instance to communicate with the internet.

3) How does Security Group differ from Network Access Control List (NACL) in AWS?

Security Groups act at the instance level, controlling inbound and outbound traffic based on port and protocol rules, while NACLs act at the subnet level, controlling traffic by allowing or denying traffic from specific IP addresses or CIDR blocks.

4) How can you connect two VPCs in different regions?

To connect two VPCs in different regions, you can set up VPC peering, which enables you to route traffic between the two VPCs as if they are within the same network. This allows instances in both VPCs to communicate with each other securely.

5) What is Amazon Route 53, and how does it work?

Amazon Route 53 is a scalable Domain Name System (DNS) web service designed to route end users to applications. It translates human readable domain names into IP addresses to help users access websites and applications globally. Route 53 can route traffic based on different routing policies and is highly available and reliable.
