1 - Can you explain your experience with Power BI and how you have used it in previous projects?

In my previous role, I was responsible for developing interactive Power BI dashboards to visualize business performance and provide insights to senior management. I have experience connecting to various data sources, transforming data using Power Query, creating relationships between different datasets, and designing visually appealing reports using Power BI visuals.

2) How do you handle large datasets in Power BI to ensure optimal performance?

When working with large datasets in Power BI, I focus on optimizing data models by removing unnecessary columns, aggregating data at the source, and using calculated columns instead of measures where possible. I also leverage features like data modeling, indexing, and partitioning to improve query performance and make use of DirectQuery mode to connect to data sources live rather than importing all data into the report.

3) Can you explain the difference between calculated columns and measures in Power BI?

Calculated columns are static values that are computed row by row within the data model, whereas measures are dynamic calculations based on the context of the report. Calculated columns are best suited for calculations that need to be stored in the data model, while measures are more flexible and can change based on the filters and slicers applied to the report.

4) How do you ensure the accuracy and integrity of data in Power BI reports?

To ensure data accuracy in Power BI reports, I validate the data sources for consistency and reliability, establish data quality rules and checks during the data preparation stage, and perform regular data validation processes. Additionally, I implement data lineage and documentation to track the source of data and transformations applied throughout the reporting process.

5) Can you walk us through a project where you used Power BI to drive actionable insights for a business decision?

In a recent project, I utilized Power BI to analyze sales data and identify trends in customer purchasing behavior. By visualizing key performance indicators and sales metrics in interactive dashboards, I was able to pinpoint opportunities for targeted marketing campaigns and product promotions. The insights generated from the Power BI reports helped the sales team make informed decisions on inventory management and pricing strategies, resulting in a significant increase in sales revenue.
